Susan’s Story – Migraines, Anger Outbursts

I got my life back when I took control of my own health. I was tired of having migraine headaches and I was tired of being angry all the time. Most of the time, I didn’t even know why I was angry. I screamed at other drivers and I had never done that before. I would catch myself and suddenly be ashamed but a minute later, I was doing it again.

I knew something was wrong because I would see my husband looking at me like I was an alien or my friend would talk to me in soothing tones like you talk to a crazy person. I actually got so mad at the telephone one day; I unplugged the phone, took it outside and hit it with a hammer until it was broken to pieces. Just imagine the look on my husband’s face as he watched me kill the phone!

I knew I needed help, but I didn’t really know where to begin so I began with my regular physician. After the blood tests, it was determined that I was indeed going through menopause. I was put on something called the Combi-Patch. It may have helped a little, but probably not much because my husband would always say “Did you forget to put on your patch?” quite often. Of course that enraged me so I know it wasn’t working. After about 6 months, I started to have really bad headaches. I didn’t think it was related to what I was taking at first because I had always had headaches; I just thought they got worse during menopause.

The headaches progressed into migraines and each one got worse than the one before. I went to a neurologist and he put me on Topamax, which gave me a strange reaction – large, raised spots on my tongue. Then he was going to put me on some other medication that could cause extreme liver damage in some cases. I decided then that none of them knew what they were doing. I put 2 and 2 together and stopped using the hormone patch given to me by my family physician. Guess what? No more migraine headaches from that day forward.

I felt I still needed help with the menopause so I did my own research. I read several books, talked to people, looked up information on the internet and I was pretty sure which route I wanted to take – the natural one. It seemed like the safest and most practical. I heard about Dr. Hotze because of his radio show and I decided to attend one of his seminars with a friend.

At the seminar, much of what I heard was so true, especially the part about regular physicians being clueless and giving prescriptions for drugs that could, over time, really destroy a person’s health. After the seminar, I really gave bio-identical hormones a lot of thought and I was especially interested in the thyroid testing because I had many of the symptoms of low thyroid.

I decided to make an appointment even though I worried that it might be rather expensive. It turned out to be one of my best ideas. I did have thyroid antibodies and Dr. Hotze put me on Armour Thyroid which has done wonders for my headaches and various other symptoms. That alone was worth the visit! I had begged my regular physician to test my thyroid completely and she never did the antibody test even though I insisted. That is completely crazy to me. Then I was put on bio-identical hormones and my anger started to subside and I started to feel like a human being again. My energy was back, I started eating organic and my husband no longer looks at me like I’m an alien. In fact, I think we are getting along better than ever before. I told him – the menopause was tough to deal with, but once you have the proper balance, it’s like a fog has lifted and I can see more clearly now.
