We all know that moms can go through hormonal changes – the kids notice it, her friends notice it, and especially her husband notices it…but what about dads? Dads also experience changes in their hormones, although the changes may occur more subtly than mom’s did. It’s important to remember that dads need to take care of their health too!
As your dad gets older, you may have noticed some of the following symptoms: he’s moving slower; he has added weight around his midsection; he may be forgetful, often confusing his own children’s names; his business is slowing down; he’s not as confident or motivated as he used to be. You may begin to worry that something could happen to your dad. He may have high blood pressure, for instance, and you may know of people who have lost their fathers to a heart attack or stroke.
There is something your dad can do to be proactive about his health. Testosterone has many protective effects, including the following:
1. Blood Pressure - Testosterone dilates the arteries, including the aorta and the coronary arteries of the heart, which lowers blood pressure.
2. Arteriosclerosis - Men with arteriosclerosis generally have low testosterone levels. Studies
indicate that taking natural testosterone can help reverse arteriosclerosis.
3. Heart Disease - Testosterone protects the heart and arteries and reduces the risk of heart
disease.
4. Bone Loss - Testosterone prevents osteoporosis by preserving bone mass.
5. Sleep - The more testosterone a man has, the deeper his sleep. More than 60% of
testosterone-deficient men complain of sleep problems.
As dad starts to get older and experience health issues, we want to do everything in our power to keep him healthy! If your dad is exhibiting signs of low testosterone, it is important that he work with his doctor to supplement with bioidentical testosterone. After all, we want our dad to be around for a very long time!
Happy Father’s Day!
