Amy Huston, nurse practitioner, specializing in natural approaches to women’s health, joined Hotze Health & Wellness Center’s medical team in October of 2009. Amy is in charge of the Well Women’s program at the Center and has spent the last nine years working in the medical profession as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse.

Prior to nursing, Amy began her educational pursuits at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Fla., where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Social Science. However, Amy’s passion for nursing was sparked after the birth of her first two children, because of the wonderful labor and delivery nurses during that time.

In an effort to pursue her true passion, Amy went back to school, and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Truman State University, Kirksville, Mo., in 2001. Upon graduation, Amy and her family, moved to Katy, Texas, where she worked full-time as a labor and delivery nurse at Memorial Herman Hospital and Christus St. Catherine Hospital in Katy.

In addition to working full-time as a labor and delivery nurse, Amy pursued her master’s degree in Nursing MSN, while raising her three children. In 2007, Amy graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, with her MSN.

Her most recent work as a nurse practitioner includes Allon Health Center and Millennium Women’s Health Care. In addition to her passion for nursing, Amy has an interest in natural therapies. Growing up, Amy’s parents believed in all-natural therapies, triggering her interest at an early age. Amy feels blessed to have the ability to combine her two passions at Hotze Health & Wellness Center.

Amy grew up on the beaches of Clearwater, Fla., where her extended family still resides. Amy currently lives in Katy with her husband of 20 years, Seth, and their three children: Hobie, 16; Hanna, 14; and Eli, 10. The Hustons are an active family and share a love for swimming. Seth is the women’s swim coach at Rice University, all three children are up and coming swimmers, and Amy enjoys aerobics, running, and volunteering with a local swim team.

Now that I know what the symptoms of hypothyroidism are, I realize that I was hypothyroid even as a child. My biggest health problems started my senior year in college. I had been an excellent student, but my senior year I started having difficulty focusing on my studies and began to get sick frequently with sinus infections. After I graduated I went to work in the medical sales field. It was stressful for me because I had to move to another state where I had no family or friends. Within several months I became very depressed and again started having difficulty focusing. At a regular gynecological checkup my doctor found that I had a cyst in one of my ovaries; he prescribed birth control pills. After taking them for several months the cyst did not reduce but actually grew larger and I had surgery to remove it. Depression became a regular part of my life from age 22 on. I have been on staff since 2001. I began my career in the Medical Questionnaire Department, conducting thousands of interviews with new guests. I then moved into the New Guest Department and became a consultant. This is where I became passionate about educating and helping women learn about safe and natural solutions to dealing with hormone deficiencies in midlife. As a woman who had previously undergone a hysterectomy at age 40, I knew first-hand the problems that occur before and after one submits to this surgery. I have experienced migraine headaches, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, autoimmune disorders as well as hypothyroidism. Additionally, after being placed on Premarin for a short time, I was diagnosed with having A-typical cells in my right breast which put me in a high risk category for breast cancer.

Soon after I joined the staff, I became a patient (or “guest” of the center) and was placed on my own health and wellness regimen. I benefited tremendously from replenishing the hormones that had long been depleted due to my hysterectomy. I had severely debilitating migraine headaches since I was a teenager. Once I was on Progesterone they became a thing of the past. I no longer experience the symptoms associated with thyroid deficiency such as low energy, brain fog, achy muscles and joints, insomnia, etc. I feel like I have a new lease on life and delight in helping others understand that it can happen to them, too!

I discovered the Hotze Health & Wellness Center many years ago at the recommendation of a dear friend who was a patient. I needed help with severe yeast overgrowth, hypothyroidism, female hormone imbalance and allergies. (Why not have it all?!!) I had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism in my 30’s but I feel certain I had been hypothyroid since birth because of the symptoms I had, (even as a baby), along with surgical removal of a very large mass (from the thyroid) when I was pre-kindergarten age. I did not realize what a difference treatment with a natural thyroid hormone could make until Dr. Hotze switched me from Synthroid to natural thyroid. My female hormones had also been out of balance since puberty and then to make things worse, I had a tubal ligation at age 24. Of course, not to leave anything out, I had allergies with bronchitis as well as chronic sore throats. I struggled with a weight problem, brain fog, anxiety and depression but had no idea I could actually feel well if my hormones were simply balanced. Let me tell you, you can feel wonderfully well if your hormones are balanced. My treatment regimen included bio-identical hormones, a yeast detox, vitamins, minerals, an eating program and allergy drops. I noticed subtle improvement within 48 hours and earthshaking improvement over the years that followed.

Little did I know this was a glimpse into my very future.

After finding my personal success as a guest at the Center, when Dr. Hotze sounded the call on the radio program in 2002 for additional staff, I answered it. I have absolutely loved being able to help people begin to understand that they can feel wonderful. I had relatively good health, and regular cycles until I was 33 years old when I experienced an overwhelming stressful period in my life. Little did I know at the time that what had just occurred would amount to an extreme case of adrenal fatigue. After this point my female hormones and therefore cycles went completely out of balance. I developed anemia, chronic fatigue, joint/muscle ache and daily headaches that plagued me for the next 7 years. My symptoms eventually led me to have a hysterectomy. Being a young mother and wife at that time, it was alarming to me to see my energy, focus and even the libido evaporate into thin air!

I went through a revolving door of doctors and even had an MRI, desperate to find out what was wrong with me. Every type of specialist I went to said the same thing, “All your tests are normal, there is nothing wrong with you that we can see.” I was glad to hear they felt nothing serious was wrong but why did I feel so bad ALL the time? Why did I have a headache every single day? There had to be a reason!

When I found the Hotze Health & Wellness Center, the first thing they did was take my complete medical history. I was listened to and asked when my symptoms started. After being evaluated by the doctor, pieces of the puzzle started falling into place. My hormone foundation was restored across the board and within a very short time my symptoms started to improve. Now in my 50’s, I am forever grateful to be headache free, to no longer have the severe muscle aches and fatigue, to be able to speak in full and clear sentences again and to be able to sleep very well! Debbie Janak began her educational journey at Texas A&M University, her love of animals leading her to obtain an undergraduate degree in Animal Science. Prior to pursuing a career in the medical field, Debbie and her husband raised their two children while maintaining the Janak farm, a working farm that raises cattle, sheep, horses, blood hounds, and peacocks. Raised in a household that held to the belief in Vitamin C to cure the common cold and juiced carrots before juicing was a fad, Debbie fell right into the pursuit of health naturally. At one time, The Janaks had 15 acres certified “organic” by the State of Texas and raised various vegetables and melons that were sold to Whole Foods in Houston.

With a passion for human biology and health, Debbie obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors in 1995 and went on to pursue her Master of Science in Nursing specializing in the Family Nurse Practitioner track in 2005. Debbie has over twelve years’ experience in healthcare as a Registered Nurse and has a background in Operating Room and Emergency Medicine. Upon obtaining her license as Nurse Practitioner, Debbie joined our team at the Hotze Health & Wellness Center in 2007 with a passion for learning and a desire to treat patients from a natural perspective. We are privileged to have Debbie as a valued member of our team!

Debbie and Mack have been married for 27 years and continue to maintain their farm. Her absolute joy is in spending time with her family and with her history, it comes as no surprise that Debbie is an avid gardener and views working in her garden as “therapy for her soul”. For fun, Debbie also enjoys traveling and often ends up in the tropics where she spends time snorkeling.

After studying pre-nursing and biology at Sam Houston State University, Angela Williams attended Houston Community College to become a Registered Nurse. Upon graduating from nursing school, Angie began her nursing career at the Family Planning Clinic in Victoria, Texas. Her passion for women’s health and love for learning led her to pursue a degree at the University of Texas Southwestern as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner.

Angie has practiced as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner for 14 years. Throughout most of her career, she practiced at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Victoria, Texas specializing in the care of women of all ages. Both the practice and Angie’s focus were obstetrics patients. She monitored patients through their entire pregnancy until approximately 4 weeks of delivery, as well as handled their post partum care. During her last two years of her career at U.T.M.B, she became certified in and performed first trimester ultrasounds.

After practicing traditional medicine for 14 years, Angie was ready for a change and welcomed the opportunity to join our team at the Hotze Health & Wellness Center in 2009. We are excited and privileged to have Angie as an addition to our team!

As a mother to three wonderful children – Jess, Coleman, and Ellen, Angie is very busy outside of work with all of their many activities. In addition to the joys of being a mom, Angie enjoys running and has participated in several half-marathon events.
