Bone Density

50% of women over 50 will have an osteoporosis related fracture. A bone density will accurately expose whether you have osteopenia or osteoporosis. Your Hotze Health & Wellness Center doctor will then work with you to customize a natural, nontoxic solution to improve the strength of your bones!

What are the risk factors for bone loss?

  • Do you smoke?
  • Do you drink soda?
  • Have you experienced hormonal imbalance in your life?
  • Are you physically inactive?
  • Have you broken a bone?
  • Is your vitamin D level below the normal range?

What are the side effects of osteoporosis drugs?

If you think pharmaceutical drugs are the answer to bone loss, think again. Here are a few of the many side effects of osteoporosis drugs:

  • Fractures of the femur
  • Joint, bone and muscle pain
  • Jaw bone decay
  • Ulcers of the esophagus
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Skin rash

Bone Density Scan

The best way to find out if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia is to get a bone mineral density test. At Hotze Health & Wellness Center, we use a Hologic DEXA scan for diagnosing bone density. It is the preferred method of testing. DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) scan is the most acceptable modality worldwide for the diagnosis and quantification of osteoporosis. DEXA scan technology uses a very low dose of X-ray to measure the bone density at your hip and spine. It’s a simple and quick test that literally takes just minutes! It is ideal for all women and men 40 and over to have a baseline study. Early diagnosis and treatment may significantly reduce the risk of possible fracture.
