Janis’s Story – Low Energy, Normal Blood Tests
What do you do when doctors think you are a nutcase? I just kept seeing different doctors.
My date of birth is August 26, 1953, and I have three older sisters. Because of our ages, we have been discussing hormones and osteoporosis for a few years. Frankly, the whole idea scared me silly. One sister had a hysterectomy and was put on Premarin and had all kinds of side effects. They have each chosen different types of treatment. Their experiences have been very beneficial. Thanks to the internet I have been able to check things out for myself.
Once while flying back to San Antonio from somewhere, I read a story in a flight magazine about a woman who had similar symptoms to mine and similar reactions from doctors she had visited. She went on to talk about the bioidentical hormone treatment at Hotze and how it had changed her life for the better. I wrote down the information and filed it away.
During the next few months I had a bad experience with the endocrinologist I was seeing for treatment. All my blood tests showed my levels were “normal”; he didn't understand why I was complaining. He treated what he thought was the problem and nothing happened. I had also gone to someone who related many of my symptoms to allergic reactions and he treated me from that angle. I began to wonder if I was being selfish and self-centered in thinking that I did not have to feel like everyone said I should be feeling. Was I making too big a deal out of it?
The second time I flew the airline with the same flight magazine and read the same type of story from a different woman's experience with Hotze and bioidentical hormones, I decided to take action. I called and got the packet of information. I took the tests on the internet. My self esteem increased because I realized what I was feeling was normal but the treatment I had considered was not the only kind of treatment. I never even knew anything like bioidentical hormones existed, but it surely made sense to me that it would work.
Because of the financial outlay, I talked to my husband before I made any arrangements. He said it would be worth it to have me back the way he remembered me, and I had already probably spent that much or more on different opinions.
Over the past two years, I have had ups and downs on the bio-identical hormones as we worked on the dosage needed for my body. Through it all, the staff has been so helpful and understanding. My thyroid levels, even though “normal” by medical standards were not normal at all; that problem has been totally corrected. My weight is back and my energy levels are high. Since we adopted a baby 5 years ago (he is 5 now), my energy level is very important to me. Overall, I am very pleased and continue to work with the Hotze clinic to stay healthy. I recommend it to everyone I talk to.
