Eight Tips to Keep Your Hormones in Balance
Why is it that when you are young, you get sick less frequently? Why is the incidence of cancer, heart disease, stroke and other chronic illnesses so low when we are young?
The answer is pretty simple. You are full of hormones, you are young and you haven’t had the time to destroy your natural hormone balance.
What happens when you age?
You abuse your body with bad food, lack of exercise, stress, relationships and jobs that do not turn out the way you had hoped they would. The wear and tear alone will cause problems. While stress will give you pimples and make you want to stuff yourself with cookies and ice cream, it will also erode your delicate hormone balance.
In translation, initially you may find yourself experiencing more PMS then usual, maybe a hot flash or two. Soon you will find you cannot sleep well at night. You toss and turn and wake up in a pool of sweat. Along with these feelings your sex drive leaves you and you start to gain an inordinate amount of weight just by looking at the food. What happened?
Your hormone balance has been thrown off. Initially, it may be that you are not ovulating as regularly as you used to. That means you no longer make the quality and quantity of progesterone your body desperately needs in order to keep the estrogen balance safe and healthy. As the progesterone goes, too much estrogen stimulates your insulin to widely fluctuate. The insulin fluctuations translate into food cravings. You crave sugar, not just regular fruit sugar, but cookies, cakes, and ice cream. In short, processed carbohydrates, which destroy your body and further erode your hormone balance.
As we age, we find ourselves less resilient and less likely to bounce back from the smallest of illnesses. Remember the cold that caused you just a few sniffles in your 20s?
Why is it that in your 50s, that same cold will throw you off your feet for a week? Because your immune system is no longer strong and able to fight off the virus that caused it. And why is your immune system so weak? Because your hormone balance is off and balance, called homeostasis, is no longer an easy thing to achieve.
You start gaining weight because your thyroid hormones are also slowing down and with estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, insulin and cortisol in the picture, they create a slowing metabolism scenario that leads to chronic illnesses.

Here are some tried and true tips from my experience on how to indefinitely delay this grim scenario from becoming your life.
Keep your hormones in happy balance!, Eat high protein, limit processed carbohydrates, stay with low saturated fats, avoid soda, alcohol, coffee and sugar substitutes.
Exercise or at least move every day for 1 hour for the rest of your life.
Face stress head on and deal with it. Do not lie to yourself or others. Do not be embarrassed that you are human.
Get plenty of rest.
Love and make love.
Put passion in everything you do. Make it all positive.
Take bioidentical hormones to insure you are keeping your hormone balance alive and well.
