Appearances and Press
In addition to providing medical commentary on network and cable news television, Dr. Erika has hosted a PBS pledge special and a weekly cable television health program. She has consulted for America Media Inc., Duracell Corporation, KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines, Kyowa Hakko, Montefiore Medical Center-Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a number of school systems. She has also been the subject of, and written articles for many publications, including USA Today, The New York Times, Boston Herald, Vogue, Shape, Self, Intouch, Wall Street Journal, W, Glamour, Women’s World, Health and First For Women.
Dr. Erika’s Story is a Remarkable One
She spent the first 15 years of her life in communist Romania and then a year in Italy before her parents sacrificed everything to send her to America. She did her undergraduate work on an academic scholarship at New York University and, having dreamed of a career in medicine since she was five years old, received her medical degree cum laude from SUNY-Downstate College of Medicine.
After a residency in internal medicine and critical care at Kings County Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Erika went on to serve as the Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, where she made history as the first (and youngest) female ER director in the country. Under her resourceful leadership, the institution was accredited as the only tertiary care trauma center between Albany and New York City and also implemented a helicopter and ambulance medivac system servicing a seven-county region.
Personal Experience
Personal experience spurred her on to become the leading advocate of an appropriate balance of diet, sleep, exercise and lifestyle to fight the sometimes ravaging consequences of menopause. Most importantly, she pioneered the use of bioidentical (that is, “natural” or “non-synthetic”) hormones and supplements. The bioidentical course of treatment has been stunningly successful for thousands of patients who have come to her with symptoms of depression, mood swings, and anxiety, decreased sex drive, weight gain, hot flashes, night sweats and sleeplessness.
Dr. Erika blames the big drug companies — driven by the profit motive rather than a desire to teach people how to get well– for keeping American women in the dark about other options and for promoting the use of synthetic hormones and antidepressants that make women feel worse.
Deeply concerned that the state of women’s health in this country has stagnated –if not regressed–, during the 30-plus years she has been a physician, her primary focus now is to educate women about healthcare solutions that will empower them to maintain their health, no matter what their age.
Dr. Erika is the founder and owner of Integrative Medicine Consultative Practice, which focuses on natural (bioidentical) hormone supplementation that helps patients feel great. Through clinical field studies on the effects and long-term outcomes of natural hormone supplementation, as well as observational studies, Dr. Erika has developed and implemented standardized methods of application for bioidentical hormones. She has also created and implemented protocols and criteria for treatment of symptoms of hormone imbalance in women between ages 16 and 75, and men between ages 45-70.
