Often men and women visit their physician complaining of such as extreme fatigue, unexplained weight gain, muscle aches and joint pain, only to be told that their blood tests are “normal”. Oftentimes these patients are prescribed antidepressants or sleep medications to mask the symptoms. Or, as countless patients have told us, they are given dismissive reasons for their symptoms such as:

“You just need to lose a little weight.”

“You are just getting older and you have three kids. What do you expect?”

Or even, “Honey, it’s nothing that a few hours of shopping won’t cure!”

And of course, “You’ll just have to learn to deal with it.”

If you’ve heard these common responses to your symptoms, know that you are not alone and it’s not all in your head! You’re not the only one who has been made to feel as though you were a hypochondriac. Before we discuss these “normal” lab ranges and tests tomorrow, we want to know – what dismissive reasons have you received for your symptoms of hypothyroidism?,
