Lower America’s Rising Deficit by Taking Care of Yourself!

, The rising cost of healthcare is taking a serious toll on our nation.   As noted by Dr. Dean Ornish on blog on CNN Health, we can prevent disease naturally through lifestyle changes, which will help reduce the astronomical healthcare costs that are contributing to our nation’s rising deficit.

“More than half of Americans will have diabetes or be prediabetic by 2020 at a cost to the U.S. Health care system of $3.35 trillion if current trends go on unabated, according to health insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc.”

People often think that to make breakthroughs in fighting disease we need the latest and greatest drug or surgical procedure. However, we can best address the underlying cause of chronic diseases through simple actions: eating a healthy diet, regular exercise, abstaining from smoking, and having a good quality of life including loving, positive relationships.  All of these lifestyle choices can do a better job of maintaining health than drugs or surgery ever will, for the body has an amazing ability to heal itself if given the right tools.

Does this sound too good to be true?  You may feel like the phrase “eat right and exercise” is greatly overstated, and for this reason many people do not give it the credit it deserves.  It sounds too easy.   Well, you may be surprised to learn which diseases are preventable and even reversible through healthy lifestyle choices:  heart disease, early-stage prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol levels, to name a few.

Don’t wait for the government to fix the healthcare system and lower the deficit, start by doing your part today.  You will not only be helping your country, you will be helping yourself! ,
