My New Years’ Resolution
It’s New Years Eve. As I sit at my desk thinking about what impact I can make in our nation in 2010, I have a chosen my goal: to educate Americans about the dangers of undiagnosed and untreated hypothyroidism.
As always, when I set my annual goals, they are made in light of achieving a much greater long-term result. Tens of millions of Americans have undiagnosed hypothyroidism which adversely affects their health; fatigue, depression, brain fog, weight gain, joint pain, insomnia, recurrent infections, migraines and cold sensitivity, to name a few. By the year 2020, my goal is for an additional 20,000,000 Americans to be accurately diagnosed and treated for hypothyroidism with natural thyroid hormone preparations. That’s 20,000,000 additional individuals who will be treated for hypothyroidism by 2020. This is very specific. Currently mainstream medicine is simply masking the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
The sword must be raised and hypothyroidism struck until it is mortally wounded and no longer affects future generations of Americans. By choosing to focus on hypothyroidism, I will also be striking a blow against other modern day American diseases: obesity, heart disease, cancer, hypertension and diabetes.
The effects of hypothyroidism are seen in our nation’s ever-increasing rates of disease, accompanying pharmaceutical addictions, rising cost of healthcare, and most importantly, a deteriorating quality of life. Think of the stress that disease and illness place on the American family. Sick people don’t have the energy to invest in the lives of their children or maintain their marriage. Sick people struggle to be productive in the workforce and succeed in their career. The bottom line is this – sick people just scrape through life.
I don’t want this for America. I don’t want this for my family or future generations to come. I don’t want this for you or your family. And I intend to do something about it. I believe that education is the first step to eradicating hypothyroidism in the United States. Physicians and the general public are unaware of the far reaching adverse effects of hypothyroidism. No one has educated them. My promise to you in 2010 is that I will do my very best to widely disseminate the message about the role that thyroid plays in each person’s health.
To help achieve this goal I will be publishing a new book in 2010 on the correct way to evaluate and treat hypothyroidism.
