Long COVID and Long Vax: Know the Symptoms and Holistic Support Options

Long COVID and Long Vax (post-vaccination syndrome) affect millions of individuals worldwide, leaving them with persistent symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, joint pain, and more. At Hotze Health & Wellness Center, we understand the frustration and emotional toll these conditions take. We offer holistic, root-cause-focused solutions designed to help you reclaim your health and vitality. In this blog, we will explore the shared symptoms of Long COVID and Long Vax, their underlying mechanisms, and how our root-cause-focused approaches may support your wellness journey.

What is Long COVID and Long Vax?

Long COVID refers to the range of symptoms that persist for weeks or months after a COVID-19 infection, while Long Vax describes similar long-term effects following COVID-19 vaccination(s). Both conditions are believed and likely to be linked to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which may remain in the body, causing inflammation, immune system dysfunction, and tissue damage. These lingering effects can vary in severity and duration, but they significantly impact quality of life.

Understanding these symptoms is crucial for seeking support. Recognizing their scope helps you explore holistic options at Hotze Health & Wellness Center, targeting underlying causes like spike protein effects or inflammation.

Common Symptoms of Long COVID and Long Vax

The symptoms listed below apply to both Long COVID and Long Vax, manifesting in varying degrees and affecting multiple body systems. Below, we detail the most reported signs, reflecting our guests (patients) experiences and current knowledge.

1. Prolonged Fatigue

Fatigue manifests as overwhelming exhaustion unrelieved by rest, making tasks like working or household chores daunting. Often called post-exertional malaise, this symptom limits daily activities and reduces quality of life.

2. Cognitive Dysfunction (Brain Fog)

Brain fog clouds memory, focus, and decision-making, impacting work or conversations. Individuals may struggle to recall words, often replacing them with incorrect ones, such as saying “chair” instead of “table” during speech. This cognitive impairment challenges daily functioning.

3. Sleep Difficulties

Insomnia, restless sleep, or frequent waking disrupt rest, intensifying fatigue and brain fog. This creates a cycle affecting overall wellness, making restorative sleep elusive.

4. Headaches and Migraines

Persistent headaches or migraines, ranging from mild to severe, disrupt productivity and comfort. These symptoms affect daily activities, presenting significant challenges.

5. Joint and Muscle Pain

Joint pain and muscle aches (myalgias) limit mobility, resembling arthritis or fibromyalgia. These symptoms hinder physical function, making exercise or daily tasks difficult.

6. Respiratory Issues

Shortness of breath, persistent cough, or chest congestion persist, with dyspnea occurring during activity or rest. These symptoms reduce stamina for tasks like walking or climbing stairs.

7. Cardiovascular Symptoms

Palpitations, tachycardia, or chest pain are frequent, with postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) causing dizziness or rapid heartbeat when standing. These cardiovascular challenges impact daily life.

8. Gastrointestinal Disturbances

Nausea, diarrhea, bloating, or loss of appetite disrupt nutrition and energy. These symptoms affect daily comfort and overall wellness.

9. Neurological and Psychiatric Effects

Depression, anxiety, vertigo, tinnitus, anosmia (loss of smell), or phantom smells impact emotional and sensory health. These symptoms challenge mental well-being.

10. Dermatologic and Other Symptoms

Rashes, itching, dermatographia, hair loss, abnormal sweating, burning eyes, flushing, or allergic-like reactions, often driven by Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), add complexity. These symptoms reflect the conditions’ systemic nature.

The Impact of Long COVID and Long Vax

Long COVID and Long Vax can severely disrupt quality of life, with symptoms persisting for months (years, for some, when left untreated) and affecting nearly half of sufferers. For example, fatigue and brain fog impair work, while joint pain or shortness of breath limit activity. Emotional symptoms like anxiety strain relationships. Moreover, symptom unpredictability—flaring one day, easing the next—complicates routines, adding frustration.

Because both conditions are systemic, a comprehensive approach is vital. Recognizing these symptoms empowers you to seek support and explore options at Hotze Health & Wellness Center, addressing root causes like inflammation or spike protein effects.

The Spike Protein Connection

Persistent symptoms in Long COVID and Long Vax may stem from the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which can remain post-infection or vaccination. This protein may drive chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial damage, or microvascular dysfunction, with severity varying by spike protein levels. For instance, vaccination may introduce higher levels, while infections leave viral remnants. Up to 80% of individuals recovering from COVID-19 may experience these symptoms (some mild and some severe), with activated monocytes, microglia, and mast cells exacerbating issues like brain fog, fatigue, or dermatologic reactions via Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).1 While research continues, this connection underscores the need for holistic support.

At Hotze Health & Wellness Center, we focus on supporting the body’s natural processes to manage these effects, using personalized programs without claiming cures.

Holistic Support for Long COVID and Long Vax

Holistic approaches at Hotze Health & Wellness Center target the root causes of Long COVID and Long Vax symptoms, supporting the body’s resilience. Our Long-Haul – Spike Protein Detoxification Program integrates nutrition, supplements, prescription medications (note: while we always opt for natural solutions, in some cases, prescription medication is called for), and lifestyle changes to address inflammation, immune dysregulation, spike protein effects, and MCAS. Below, we outline key strategies and their potential benefits to help you explore your options.

  • Spike Protein Detoxification: We use nutritional support, antioxidant supplements, and fasting protocols to support detoxification pathways and reduce spike protein presence, promoting cellular health. A 2021 study suggested antioxidants aid cellular recovery in post-viral syndromes (Suhail et al. 7).2
  • Immune System Support: We help strengthen the immune system by implementing our 8-point treatment regimen to support immune balance and reduce inflammation.
  • Hormone Optimization: We offer bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) to support hormonal balance, addressing symptoms like fatigue or hair loss.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Diets: We recommend diets rich in vegetables and healthy fats to support reduced inflammation, aiding joint pain and systemic symptoms. A 2022 study showed Mediterranean diets promote balanced inflammatory responses.3
  • MCAS Management: We use targeted supplements and medications, such as Amlexanox and antihistamines, to support symptom management for Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, addressing dermatologic issues, itching, and systemic reactions. A 2021 study suggested antihistamines help stabilize mast cells in inflammatory conditions (Theoharides et al. 12).4
  • Prescription Medications: We utilize compounded medications to support Long COVID and Long Vax symptom management, sourced from Physicians Preference Pharmacy, which may include:
    • Ivermectin: May reduce inflammation by targeting spike protein activity.
    • Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN): Modulates immune responses, potentially easing pain and fatigue.
    • Vitamin D3: Supports immune balance, addressing deficiencies.
    • Amlexanox: Acts as an anti-inflammatory and mast cell stabilizer.
    • Sildenafil: Improves blood flow, potentially aiding brain fog.
    • Methylene Blue: Optimizes mitochondrial function, supporting energy.
    • Sirolimus: Promotes autophagy, reducing inflammation.
    • Melatonin (Slow-Release): Provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support, aiding sleep. These require a prescription from your provider and are tailored to your symptoms.

These strategies, customized to your needs, may support wellness by addressing systemic effects. Consulting a provider ensures the best approach.

Recognizing When to Seek Support

If you experience persistent symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, or joint pain after having had COVID-19 or any of the many vaccinations that may have been recommended by your primary care physician, Long COVID or Long Vax may be the cause. At the Hotze Health & Wellness Center we did not recommend the vaccination to any of our guests. We took this stance for multiple reasons but the three most important were:

  1. We did not feel the vaccination was properly tested.
  2. We believe in herd immunity and prevention and did extensive research on the power of Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine, and Nebulizers (Oxygen at the home when needed).
  3. We believe God has given our bodies the ability to heal themselves with the right prevention and lifestyle.

Some of our guests did get COVID, but we treated them early with Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine, and most were feeling better within 3-5 days. We are proud to inform you that we had zero deaths of our upwards of 5,000 guests (we call our patients guests) who came to us for prevention and treatment. Some of our guests, post-COVID infection, have suffered from Long COVID symptoms.

Early recognition is key. Getting on the proper protocols to reduce and relieve the symptoms can be life-changing. If you are having trouble understanding your symptoms, there are tools for recognition. For example, tracking symptoms in a journal or app identifies patterns for provider discussions.

Because symptoms may mimic conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, a thorough evaluation ensures targeted support for underlying factors like spike protein effects or inflammation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Long COVID and Long Vax

What Causes Long COVID and Long Vax Symptoms?

Symptoms may arise from lingering spike proteins, immune dysregulation, inflammation, or MCAS post-infection or vaccination, varying in severity.

How Long Do Symptoms Last?

Symptoms may persist for weeks, months, or longer, differing by individual. For example, some see relief within three months, while others face ongoing issues that can last years left untreated.

Who Is at Risk?

Anyone can develop Long COVID or Long Vax, including those who did not take the shot, with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 cases or younger adults who did not require respiratory support or intensive care, as initial disease severity is not an accurate predictor. Pre-existing conditions or strong immune responses may also increase risk for Long Vax.1

How Do Long COVID and Long Vax Differ?

Long COVID follows infection, while Long Vax follows vaccination. Both share similar symptoms like fatigue and brain fog but may differ in intensity due to spike protein levels.
