Discover the Secret to Improving Libido After a Hysterectomy
Ladies, did your doctor tell you that a hysterectomy would solve all your health problems? Well, you may have learned the hard way, or from other women, that this is in fact not the case. Besides a whole new set of symptoms after a hysterectomy, which throws you into menopause, you may also experience loss of libido. This is very common and many women want to learn how to improve libido after a hysterectomy.
Low libido refers to a lack of sexual desire, and can be caused by numerous factors such as disease, fatigue, depression, relationship problems, hormonal imbalance and even by prescription drug side effects, as happens with birth control pills. But there’s one thing that most people don’t associate with a woman’s low libido, and that’s low testosterone.
What Changes after a Hysterectomy to Cause Low Testosterone Levels?
Testosterone is primarily known as the male sex hormone, however women also make it in their ovaries and adrenal glands in smaller amounts. If you’re wondering what testosterone has to do with a woman’s interest in sex, the answer is: everything. Testosterone is a natural female libido enhancer. Did you know that in women who are of reproductive age, levels of testosterone peak at ovulation, thus stimulating a woman’s desire for sex? No wonder testosterone is crucial to a woman’s libido. About one-half of a woman’s testosterone is produced in, you guessed it: her ovaries. So when women undergo a total hysterectomy, they immediately lose 50% percent of their circulating testosterone. Now you can see how having your ovaries removed during a hysterectomy can decrease your sex drive. Barbara is a perfect example of this.
Barbara’s Story – Life After a Hysterectomy
My story begins when I had a total hysterectomy at the age of 42, requiring me to take conventional hormonal therapy. The following ten years were all downhill for me while changing from one conventional hormone therapy to another. None of the conventional therapies would work for me. Needless to say, during this ten year period I was experiencing mood swings, hot flashes, insomnia, weight gain and migraines. The word “SEX” was not in my vocabulary, nor was I thinking about sex.
“I Got My Life Back” the day of my appointment with Dr. Hotze, with my husband loving me enough to make the appointment. Dr. Hotze treated each symptom with all natural compounded medicines that actually worked where the conventional hormonal therapy did not. I lost 40 pounds, my migraines stopped, and my moodswings, hot flashes, and night sweats went away. I am sleeping well again and have an abundance of energy. Guess what! “SEX” is now in my vocabulary, I am not homebound and my husband is loving it, as well as having his wife back. We can’t thank or repay Dr. Hotze enough for what he has done for me, which is “Giving Me My Life Back”.
Your Testosterone Levels Can Still Fall Even if You Haven’t Had a Hysterectomy
As women age, their level of testosterone begins to decline. Women who experience estrogen dominance, an imbalance of progesterone and estrogen, suffer from low testosterone. When a woman becomes estrogen dominant, she begins to experience cycles without ovulation and therefore misses out on the accompanying elevation in testosterone that normally comes with ovulation. To make matters worse, estrogen dominance increases the liver’s production of sex-hormone binding globulins. These sex-hormone binding goblins attach to the small amount of testosterone in circulation effectively preventing testosterone from entering the cells.

I am 64 years old and had a hysterectomy and double oophorectomy when I was 49. I immediately lost all my libido. I had some success with using a male testosterone product (Androgel), although the drug information warned women not to use it.
I had hormone-receptive breast cancer 5 years ago. One oncologist said I should never use any hormones again. Another oncologist, whom I have more respect for, told me that they used to treat my cancer with testosterone, and let me use it; however told me, “that the jury is still out ” on its use in my situation. I would so love to have ANY libido, as my husband and I always had great sex and it was a huge part of our lives. Would Dr. Hotze have an answer?
Thank you for your question. This is a common situation. We use hormones after breast cancer on a case by case basis. Our doctors would need to look at your specific medical history in more detail, as well as at your hormone levels, and discuss a plan. Please call a wellness consultant at 281-698-8698 for more information. We wish you great health!
I had a TAH/BSO at 46 and since surgery have had less and less sex drive. Now at 62 my drive does not exist and is devastating to my relationship with my husband of 45 years. All was fine until the surgery but my sex drive was the only part of me that never recovered. My OB/GYN tried testosterone capsules, creams etc. but all I got was side effects from the Ned’s with no improvement in my libido. I love my husband desperately and he says the same but as we age his need for a complete sex life seems to be escalating and my drive continues to diminish. It’s been 10 years since I’ve tried any medications for fear of side effects. Is there anything out there to help me or am I doomed for the rest of my life to be sexually dead? I’d love any help you can offer.

I had a hysterectomy and my ovaries out about 3 years ago now. I have been on an estrogen patch using HRT and on and off trying different Testerome treatments with a certified HRT doctor. I struggle as I have had all side affects for any testosterome medicine that has been introduced to me and am now gaining weight unable to lose, lack of sleep, the hot flashes have gotten worse, lack of sex drive totally and some low energies. This is affecting me and my everyday life and it’s like a secret struggle for me. Any advice?
Have you been evaluated for hypothyroidism? Many of your symptoms could be due to low thyroid function. I done a lot of extensive research to find a safe, legal, sexual performance enhancing product. And I wanted to make sure it was legal with no weird side effects.
I am a mature man so sexual performance can sometimes be affected by my age but since using the Dr Max Powers HGH Spray the problem seems to have been eradicated. In the bedroom I feel alot better and my wife also agrees. After taking the correct dosage, the spray takes 30 minutes to work on myself but I guess this varies due to the individual.
I had a hysterectomy about a year ago I’m on hrt at the moment, the doctor has given me testremone cream is it safe to use both together and what are the chances of side affect with face hair, if that happens with you getting facial hair do you just stop using the cream and it doesn’t grow any more I’m just so worried about using it thanks

We are so sorry to hear that you are having such a difficult time after your hysterectomy. We know how hard it is to feel bad, especially during the holidays. Please know that you are not alone – it is very common to have low or no libido, as well as many other negative symptoms, after a hysterectomy. This happens because your hormones have declined after the surgery. In order to feel like yourself again and restore your libido, you need to replace your hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone) with bioidentical hormones that are identical to those made by your body.

I had my testosterone checked at a very reputable hospital. On a scale of one to ten my level was two. I am 66 yrs old and had both my ovaries and uterus removed. I am currently using an estradiol patch with a dosage of .025. I have been reducing the dosage gradually over many years with the hope of discontinuing taking estrogen completely. I originally started taking HRT because I had severe hot flashes along with depression. When I told my Dr. that I had no interest in sex he put me on Estratest but I stopped taking it because I was told that taking testosterone wasn’t good for me and my skin became very oily. When I was taking Estratest it increased my libido greatly. Is there a herbal supplement I can take which would increase my energy and more importantly increase my libido? I had my ovaries and uterus removed when I was 46 yrs old due to endometriosis. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your help which I need desperately!
Thank you for your question. Estratest does not contain real testosterone, but rather the chemical methyltestosterone which is foreign to the human body and has many negative side effects. Estratest may increase the risk of stroke, heart attack, blood clots, high blood pressure, or similar problems, to name a few.
We would recommend to try supplementing with bioidentical testosterone – which is identical to the testosterone made by your body. It is possible that bioidentical progesterone can also help with libido.
Have you been evaluated for hypothyroidism? Low energy is a common symptom of low thyroid function. Be sure you work with a doctor who focuses on your symptoms, clinical history and body temperature, and who does not rely only on a single blood test.

My husband started taking the Dr Max Powers Testosterone Boost (I actually purchased it for him), and he has been taking it for a little over a week now and I can tell the difference…he has a noticeable improvement in his stamina, strength and energy. After a certain age, its best to supplement your testosterone, and this stuff works, and he said he doesnt not have any side effects. We both are enjoying it 🙂
Hi, I am a 54 year old woman. At the age of 26 I had a total hysterectomy. Sex drive???? I couldn’t even tell you what that feels like. I do what I have to do only to keep my 3 Rd husband. To your health,
I had my ueterus removed 1 week ago. Still have my ovaries which im thankful for. The question i have is me and my spouse have always been very active. I mean 8-15 times a week active. We may skip 1 day but never more. Since i had this done i have zero desire. I mean don’t even want to be touched. I felt this why after my sons birth 16 years ago but it took several years before i even wanted to have sex again.
We have not had sex docs orders, naturally, but touching took place this evening and it was nice. Problem i went to organism and it just dropped off to nothing. They use to be very intense. What happened and how do i correct this? Im really worried.
Since you had your uterus removed, it is possible that the blood supply to your ovaries was compromised, which is why you are having this symptom of hormone decline and imbalance. If hormone decline is the cause, then you can restore libido when you replace hormones with bioidentical hormones.

My name is Jane and two years ago I had a complete hysterectomy, removing the ovaries, uterus and cervix. I’m 59 years old by the way. I don’t have the desire to have deep penetrative sex anymore but I can still have an orgasm through masturbation. I was doing it a lot, most every night and now I’m seem to be losing the desire. Nothing seems to turn me on anymore. Am I have a low testosterone problem?
