How To Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

November 3, 2021

type 2 diabetes

More than 34 million Americans have diabetes (about 1 in 10), and approximately 90-95% of them have type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes most often develops in people over age 45, but more and more children, teens, and young adults are also developing it. (1)

Are you struggling to get control of your type 2 diabetes? You may already know that you need to eat healthier and exercise, however it may be really difficult to change your daily habits. You may ask yourself, “Does it really help? Is it worth the effort to make these changes?” Our answer would be “yes!” Did you know that it is possible to reverse type 2 diabetes naturally, without the use of pharmaceutical drugs? Read on to learn more.

First, what is insulin?

Insulin is a hormone that allows your body to use the glucose from food to produce energy. It is produced in the pancreas and released into the bloodstream whenever blood sugar levels rise. This hormone works like a key that allows glucose to enter cells and be absorbed. Without it, cells become starved for energy, causing adverse effects in all parts of the body.

Insulin regulates the level of sugar in the bloodstream. If it is not produced in the right amount or not used effectively by the body, the result will be too much or too little sugar in the bloodstream. Both conditions are dangerous.

When you eat and blood sugar levels rise, beta cells in your pancreas signal the release of insulin. The hormone then attaches to cells, telling them to absorb the sugar from the bloodstream. The higher blood sugar levels are, the more the pancreas produces.

Insulin also helps the body store excess sugar in the liver. Later, when levels become low, it signals a release of that sugar back into the bloodstream.

Both blood sugar and insulin levels must be carefully monitored in someone with diabetes. Too little insulin leads to high blood sugar levels. On the other hand, too much can lower blood sugar to dangerous levels, resulting in insulin shock. This can cause weakness, fainting, convulsions and even coma.

Type 1 vs. Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is the result of either a lack of, or resistance to, insulin. When the body can’t produce or effectively use it, glucose (sugar) levels in the blood rise to dangerous levels. If you don’t so something about it, this can lead to serious health problems and even death.

Diabetes occurs in two forms. With type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce enough of the hormone insulin. With type 2 diabetes, the body develops a resistance to insulin. This means the body produces the hormone insulin, but the cells are immune to its effects. Both types leave cells lacking energy and cause problems throughout the body.

The most common form of diabetes is type 2 diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes, which signifies a resistance to insulin. This means that the body produces the hormone insulin, but the cells do not properly respond, creating a demand higher than what the pancreas can produce. The good news is that this resistance can be improved, and even reversed, with natural lifestyle changes.

Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally

Research demonstrates that you can prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes with lifestyle changes such as exercise and a healthy eating plan.

Research shows that what you eat is one of the major factors now linked to diabetes. The amount and type of food you eat is a fundamental determinant of your health and constitutes a crucial aspect of the overall management of diabetes.

Research shows that regular physical activity helps the body’s cells take up glucose and thus lower blood glucose levels. Regular physical activity also helps with weight loss as well as controlling blood cholesterol and blood pressure. Walking is one of the easiest and healthiest ways to exercise. You don’t have to do intense physical workouts, just get outside and walk! This is one activity that anyone can do for a lifetime without special equipment and with little risk of injury.

Tips to Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes
  • Cut out sugar, simple carbs and grains (avoid artificial sweeteners)
  • Do a yeast-free (sugar-free) eating program
  • Eat vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, organic chicken, grass-fed beef, wild-caught salmon
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain a healthy body weight
  • Limit alcohol
  • Take cinnamon and berberine which can help lower blood sugar
  • Take chromium to help improve insulin sensitivity
Type 2 Diabetes and Hypothyroidism

Did you know that hypothyroidism increases your risk for type 2 diabetes? Research recommends screening thyroid function in patients with type 2 diabetes. (2,3) By properly treating hypothyroidism, along with a healthy eating plan and exercise program, you can reverse type 2 diabetes. Take Jeff’s story, for instance. Jeff was able to lose weight, increase his energy and get off all of his diabetes medications.

I’ve been a guest at this facility for 15 years. They are the most efficient, thorough and caring group of individuals I’ve ever experienced. Dr Hotze looks to change the way a typical doctor treats patients and looks for root causes to eliminate medical issues instead of treating “symptoms”. My life has improved 100% since my initial visit. The cost of the treatments are worth it.

I cannot accurately describe in words how I feel about this practice and the entire staff. I have had quite a few health issues throughout the years, rheumatoid arthritis, sjogrens, weight gain, hair loss, irritability, and that is just the beginning. I had pretty much given up on feeling good, just decided to "live with it" and hope for the best. Two very close friends love the Hotze Wellness Clinic and they have experienced life changing health. Made my appointment and from the beginning I felt heard. Not a in and out fast food style practice. They are looked and are looking at my entire body for overall health and wellness. Connections from mind and body to clinical blood work, even dental questions....they care and I feel as if I can trust them. I am on a path to complete wellness and my goal is to have my RA back in remission as it once was....make yourself a priority. Having hope is an incredible feeling!
